While many joked early on about the inevitable baby boom soon to be associated with the Corona virus quarantine, I’ve witnessed an “adult awakening” of a different kind.  Several clients, often 40-something, married with kids, seem to have crossed a new threshold when it comes to goals for their homestead.

In many cases these projects and imperfections have been on the To Do list for years, but never seemed to rise to the level of priority given the countless distractions and competing financial commitments of a busy family.  And then came COVID. Togetherness seems to have taken on a whole new meaning this year, and our homes need to work harder than ever to meet our needs and foster a healthy mindset.

To that point, improvements like organizing a chaotic closet, updating dysfunctional lighting, or addressing rot repair may sound as sexy as life insurance or composting to most homeowners, but these pragmatic investments are proof that adulting is very on-trend for 2020.

There has never been a better time to let go of hand-me-down furniture, that dated bathroom, or ugly flooring. Rooms need to be multi-functional.  Materials need to be easy to clean.  Are you ready?  The team at Oxland Builders would love to support you with your home improvement goals.

For October’s chapter of Inspiration is Everywhere, our hypothetical room was once again born from the beauty of nature. Considering the constant turmoil we’ve experienced this year, the calming beauty of nature is more important than ever to nurture a sense of well-being.

In this space, earthy tones of rust and moss are blissful in balance with muted vinyl plank flooring and a cream couch.  An oak leaf's silhouette abstractly resonates throughout the area rug, bamboo mirror, sculptural side table, and green accent pillow. Subtly striped curtains hint at the textural birch bark of our inspiration while the wrought iron table lamp and decorative leaf introduce obvious elements of nature.  A modern recliner in charcoal tweed offers comfort as well as style. The striking credenza with mottled patina doors is a focal piece not to mention priceless storage.
